Avoid These Common Web Mistakes

Podcasting is Sticky

Remember Podcasting? Listeners Do. - eMarketer

Podcasting is about as long tail as it gets.

Although there are a few highly-rated podcasts with more than 100,000 listeners/viewers, most podcasts have far smaller audiences, highly-focused on niche interests.

Optimize for Google

How to Optimize for Google - Part 1 of 3

In today's online world search engine rankings can make your business succeed, and while rankings in Yahoo and MSN are very valuable, their combined market value is still less than that of Google. This makes achieving top rankings in Google that much more important.

How to Optimize for Google: Part 2 of 3
Optimizing for top Google rankings includes a number of factors. In Part 1 of 3 we discussed onsite optimization. In Part 2 we will touch on incoming links as well as using Google Webmaster Tools.

The Ten Commandments of Search Engine Optimization
Most of the time when we pitch to a new client we are asked for SEO guarantees. “Your competition has guaranteed top results and submission to 100,000 Search Engines and Directories”. We go all out educating clients that Search Engine Optimization is all about smart work and not just adding random keywords and submitting to every directory possible. I’m writing this article to reach out to the SEO buyers and help them distinguish the crooks from the genuine SEO. I’ve compiled my Search marketing experience over the years in this article. I hope this helps you in selecting your Search Marketing initiative.

Muses on a Social Conversation

Conversation Agent: Ten Ideas for Conversation

Social media is, well, social. Interaction is part of the experience and expectation. If this is your first blog or foray into the scene, you are probably going to be doing a lot more of the work than those individuals or companies that have an established presence. And by presence I mean "voice" - what they bring to the table as evaluated and valued by the people they interact with.

Conversation Agent: The Cluetrain Manifesto Conversation
You’re either participating or you’re not, writes Micheal Walsh at Lingolook. There's no in between. It would be like being half pregnant, or half baked - the first one improbable, the second indigestible.

Muses on Twitter

Twitter micro-blogging has business benefits and PR uses – it’s not for twits and not just for gossip - market2world communications - technology public relations and product launch in Ottawa and beyond

Twitter is the micro-blogging and social networking service many of us think is mainly used to broadcast irrelevant minutia. However, clever business-minded Twitter users have found ways to put Twitter to work. Kiruba Shankar, CEO of Business Blogging and founder director of F5ive Technologies, writing for the Business Standard, suggests building your Twitter community and using it for advance notices and sneak previews of products or services. Shankar’s article, Business benefits of Twitter deserve consideration, also describes Twitter as a tool for listening to your market:

twitter.zappos.com
Remember back when sending SMS text messages on your cell phone was a new thing, and it seemed kind of strange to use your cell phone to do that? And today, you probably wonder how you ever lived without text messaging.

Well, Twitter is the same way. It's going to seem a little weird at first, but I promise you if you can talk your friends into joining it and you all use it for 2 weeks, it will change your life. You will wonder how you ever lived without it.

A Twitter Primer
What I love about blog-arguments over the some web tool's value (on the enthusiast side, which I am usually on, I fully admit it, I love shiny new toys), or lack thereof (on the detractor side) is that the argument itself usually gets a lot more people interested in whatever it is we have been arguing about.

To that end, if you want to give it a try and see what all the fuss is about...

7 Steps to Creating a Podcast from an Article

7 Steps to Creating a Podcast from an Article

Podcasting is the process of creating audio files (most commonly in MP3 format) available online so that users can automatically download the files to listen whenever they want. Many will listen to the file via their computer, but since the file is portable, the listener can also download the file to the mp3 player, much in the same way they would download and listen to music.

Here's my 7 step process to creating podcasts from my articles:

Web 2.0 is critical to the Anglican church if it is to keep up with today's youth, according to the Sydney diocese's CIO.

"The church is investing heavily in Web 2.0 technologies," CIO George Lymbers told IDC's Directions 08 event yesterday in Sydney.

Budget to axe small business field officer positions

This move by the Australian Federal Government is a real backwards step for small and micro-businesses throughout Australia.

APTUS Strategy has had quite a few dealings with Small Business Officers under the current program and they do an essential job very well in regional areas of Australia.

The Government must look at alternative schemes to continue assisting small business development, and whilst the private sector may be able to provide some coverage, the cost of providing this support may mean its not a very viable activity for the private sector.

We will now see a major loss of knowledge in regional areas as current staff move on to other things and those critical business networks gradually dissipate. Very sad indeed.

Budget to axe small business field officer positions - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Small business field officers across Australia will soon lose their jobs, as the Federal Government begins axing the program.

The program began in 2003 to provide advice and assistance to small businesses.

The Government says 70 positions will be axed in the budget.

Minister for Small Business Craig Emerson, says cutting the program is not a reflection on the field officers, but part of an effort to reduce government expenditure.

"Governments have to make these decisions, it is a tough decision, I acknowledge that we get no pleasure out of making decisions like this but we are honouring all existing contracts, there will be advisory services made available," he said.

"We will have a system of business enterprise centres and that will be outlined in the budget."
